Wai kruSawadee ka Thai department would like to Welcome all teachers , specialists to participate Wai Kru ceremony on this Thur. Sept. 25 starts at 7:30-10:10 am. Please sees schedule as attached file. And to get some ideas about the ceremony I would like to brief some information about this ceremony. This activity is an essential activity for students in Thailand . The ceremony has a meaningful thought and value to students and teachers. “ Paying respect to the teachers” are the words that would best describe “Wai Kru”. At TCIS, Wai Kru has always been on Thursdays, the beginning of every academic year for the entire school student body. Before the ceremony day, students spend time preparing and practicing the Wai Kru chant and performing the ceremony of paying respect to their teachers. They also learn how to decorate the flower trays and candle trays. These two things represent respect and gratitude. Each of the materials used to make the trays have a meaning related to academics. For example, the”Dok Kem” (needle flower) represents having “sharp” brain. “Ya praek” (Bermuda grass) represents humility and growth and the spread of knowledge. Aside from these two, there are other kinds of flower on it, too, that symbolize other ideas such as the “Dok Ruk” which means love. Another one is the “ban mai roo ruay”, which means eternal existence. All students involve in this activity will create to do the best for all teachers. Please don’t hesitate to join us and because the ceremony is formal ,teachers and students please dress up appropriate outfit. Monday, September 08, 2003
