Wai KruSawasdee Ka, Thai Department would like to welcome all homeroom teachers and specialists to participate Wai Kru ceremony on Thursday, Sept 30 starts at 7:30-10:10 am. Please see the schedule as attached file. Here are some ideas about the ceremony I would like to brief some information about this ceremony. This activity is an essential activity for students in Thailand. The ceremony has a meaningful thought and value to students and teachers. ”Paying respect to the teachers” are the words that would best describe “Wai Kru”. In Thailand, teacher day has always been on Thursday, the beginning of every academic year for the entirely school. Before the ceremony day, students spend time preparing flower bouquets in their art class and practicing the Wai Kru chant for performing in the ceremony as paying respect to their teachers. They also learn how to decorate the flower trays and candle trays. These two things represent respect and gratitude. Each of the materials used to make the trays have a meaning related to academics. For example, the “Dok Kem” (needle flower) represents having sharp brain. ”Ya Praek” (Bermuda grass) represents humility and growth as the spread of knowledge. Aside from these two, there are other kinds of flower on it too, that symbolize the other ideas. All of our students will create to do the best for all teachers. The ceremony is formal, during the ceremony students will sit on the floor while teachers are on the chair, so please dress up in an appropriate outfit and avoid putting up or crossing your leg. Thai &Art Department will conduct Wai Kru ceremony in the hall on Thursday September 30 in the morning. All students K-12 will involve in this event and be divided into 3 groups as follows. Group 1: G 7-12 at 7.30-8.50 Group 2: G 3-6 at 8.15-9.05 Group 1: G K1-G2 at 9.20-10.10 For more information about the schedule of this events will be sending out next week. -- by Ms Cream Saturday, August 21, 2004
Message from the HeadmasterDear TCIS Parents, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome back to TCIS for the start of the 2004-05 school year our families and friends. I hope that your summer break was restful and enjoyable. TCIS's educational program is designed to provide a strong foundation for life-long literacy. We believe that every child is a unique and important individual who can learn. We believe it is our responsibility to serve as facilitators for the development of each child's maximum potential academically, physically, socially, and emotionally. We are committed to providing opportunities, which assist in helping students make self-directed, and responsible decisions. Each student will gain from his or her school experience in direct proportion to the effort he/she puts forth. To increase the opportunity for success, teachers, parents, and administrators must communicate openly and frequently. TCIS's faculty and staff, like you, all want the best for your children, but we cannot do it alone. Parents play a key role in the educational process. A word of encouragement, a hug when the day has been rough, interest in your child's work, and your presence at school functions are proven ingredients for academic success. Parents are important! We invite you to come to school, meet with us, talk to us, join the PTA and volunteer your time and energy. Your involvement will demonstrate to your child that you value education and are interested in ensuring their success. Have a wonderful school year. Respectfully, Chih-hung Wu Headmaster Student Council ElectionPlease be informed that The TCIS Student Council 2004-2005, comprised of 69 students from Grades 7-12, nominated their candidates for this year’s Executive Committee. Art ShowTeachers, The lower and upper school art show is being held Tuesday thru Friday morning in the sixth floor hall. Check it out when you have time, we have a very talented bunch of young artists at TCIS. Also, the special art presenter, that I mentioned to all of the kindergarten and lower school classes, will only be here Tuesday. So, the only classes that will be able to participate in the activity are K-1, K-3b, 3-C, and 3-B. Please remind your students to bring 25 baht if they want to participate( it’s a candle making/carving lesson). Sorry to the rest of you that I had all pumped up, we will still go to the show during art time, don’t worry. Leaving most unsaid, Al
